Summary

Tex-Mex is more than just a flavor-packed cookbook of tried and true recipes for comfort-food favorites like nachos, fajitas, and chili--it's a way of life。

"A revelatory book that will make you want to heartily wander the border。"--Hugh Acheson

It was born in the 1940s when traditional Northern Mexican cuisine collided with the robust flavors of Texas ranchers' kitchens。 Now, chef and restaurateur Ford Fry presents the definitive book on the topic with craveable recipes that are heavy on flavor and light on fuss。 Peppered throughout are jump-off-the-page photographs, helpful ingredient explainers, playful histories, and important cooking tips。 These melty, crispy, hot-as-heck classics include Dirty Breakfast Tacos, Grilled Shrimp Diablo, Cheese Enchiladas Con Chili Gravy, Sopaipillas with Local Honey, and more salsas than you can imagine。 Pour yourself a Classic Margarita on the Rocks--don't forget to salt the rim--and get ready to satisfy the rumble in your stomach。

Praise for Tex-Mex

"Fry puts his passion into [this] approachable cookbook。 。 。 。 [Tex-Mex] offers recipes for all-time favorites like nachos, fajitas, and enchiladas, with lesser-known dishes like albondigas, and staples such as migas and campechana de mariscos。" --The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

"Ford Fry's food is warm, inviting, and soulful, and his passion for all things Tex-Mex--from queso to combo plates--is contagious。 If you love refried beans, salsa, enchiladas, and tacos, you'll want to cook everything in this beautiful and lively new book。 I know I'll be referring to it time and time again。"--Lisa Fain

"These authors make the perfect team to capture the crave-ability of Tex-Mex。 This fantastic book will lead you to discover the soul of Texas's ultimate comfort food。"--Tyson Cole

"The photos and recipes make you salivate and the stories remind you of the friends and family who you've shared a basket of warm chips and salsa with countless times before。 I for one plan to enjoy this book the way it was meant to be: with a big bowl of queso dip in front of me and an ice-cold margarita in hand!"--Kevin Gillespie

I got this from the library and it is so cool! I loved reading through the pages of this book, it took me back to where i grew up in South Texas; San Antonio in particular。 It includes a little history of how Tex-Mex originated and a history of some of the recipes as well。 The recipes include tortillas, main dishes, salads, sides, quesos, salsas, desserts & beverages。 To my disappointment it didn’t include caldo, menudo, gorditas or buñuelos, all of which are very popular and served in many if n I got this from the library and it is so cool! I grew up eating those and the restaurant that created them is a hole-in-the-wall that was located a few blocks from the house I grew up in。 Overall, I really enjoyed the book! It was like a stroll down my heritage memory lane! I would actually consider owning this book。 。。。more

I love Tex-Mex food and this book takes me home! Can't wait to try the recipes。 They all look delicious! This cookbook has a very dynamic presentation, with loud fonts and bright colors, and great photos。 It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoyed the look of the book as well。 I love Tex-Mex food and this book takes me home! An excellent collection of traditional recipes that include some surprises。More than anything, this has to be the most visually pleasing cookbook I've ever encountered。 Everything from the photography to the graphic design makes me want to flip through these pages repeatedly (and even try some of the recipes!)The hamburguesa al carbon with chili gravy is a new favorite! For more reviews, visit www。rootsandreads。wordpress。com An excellent collection of traditional recipes that include some surprises。More than anything, this has to be the most visually pleasing cookbook I've ever encountered。 Everything from the photography to the graphic design makes me want to flip through these pages repeatedly (and even try some of the recipes!)The hamburguesa al carbon with chili gravy is a new favorite! For more reviews, visit www。rootsandreads。wordpress。com 。。。more

Pictures of recipes? Some。Commentary on recipes? Yes。Nutrition facts? No。Recipe Style? Tex-Mex staples。Any keepers? No。Great choice if you're a Tex-Mex enthusiast。 The book has a very distinctive style, but I didn't like it。 The neon graphics and hard to read fonts frankly gave me a headache。 Pictures of recipes? The formatting and design of this book is so poor that it was very unpleasant to read, and I would NEVER be able to cook anything out of it! Ick。

I haven't eaten much Tex-Mex versus Cal-Mex or Mexican so it was an eye opener。 While I'm not sure how much of Tex-Mex cuisine is covered, there's a fair number of recipes in the book。 Many recipes are pretty heavy on the cheese, including Velveeta! and there's a fair amount of frying, it's not a good diet book。 It's a interesting read once book, but I'm unlikely to make any of the recipes。 I haven't eaten much Tex-Mex versus Cal-Mex or Mexican so it was an eye opener。 While I'm not sure how much of Tex-Mex cuisine is covered, there's a fair number of recipes in the book。 Many recipes are pretty heavy on the cheese, including Velveeta! and there's a fair amount of frying, it's not a good diet book。 It's a interesting read once book, but I'm unlikely to make any of the recipes。 。。。more

This was perhaps the most exciting cookbook I have ever purchased because it was filled with all the foods I actually want to eat every single day of my life。 There were tons of gorgeous photos accompanied by a colorful and fun design。 There is a lot of background information about tex mex food, but it's interesting and succinct enough that you won't lose interest。 I bought this cookbook completely on a whim when I saw it listed as a new release and I'm SO glad I did。 With the exception of the s This was perhaps the most exciting cookbook I have ever purchased because it was filled with all the foods I actually want to eat every single day of my life。 There were tons of gorgeous photos accompanied by a colorful and fun design。 There is a lot of background information about tex mex food, but it's interesting and succinct enough that you won't lose interest。 I bought this cookbook completely on a whim when I saw it listed as a new release and I'm SO glad I did。 With the exception of the seafood and alcoholic beverage chapters, I marked almost every single recipe as something I want to try。 I loved that all of the recipes looked flavorful and delicious without any hard to find ingredients or techniques。 I'm so excited to dig in and start trying out these recipes。 I think this will prove to be an essential cookbook in my collection that I will turn to often! 。。。more

I have only had this book in my hands for two weeks and I have already made eight different recipes! Let me tell you – WOAH – this book is incredible! Taco night at my house has never tasted so incredible! I have been across the border five times and this book totally brings Mexico into my home! That first night flipping through these pages was magical, basically everything is here, all my favorite food memories from my times in Mexico – Horchata, Al Pastor and Carne Asado Tacos, tamales, limes, I have only had this book in my hands for two weeks and I have already made eight different recipes! I have been across the border five times and this book totally brings Mexico into my home! That first night flipping through these pages was magical, basically everything is here, all my favorite food memories from my times in Mexico – Horchata, Al Pastor and Carne Asado Tacos, tamales, limes, cilantro, and so many incredible salsas!。 I have never owned a cookbook that captured any of these recipes well, so glad this book is now in my hands! Already have more recipes lined out for next week!I haven’t experienced true Texan Mexican food, but this book sure seems like a perfect mix of my experiences both in Mexico and with American Mexican restaurants。 I love both, if I could only pick one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of my life it would be this, and if I could only pick one cookbook, it would be this one!The Glossary of Chiles is super handy, and the picture of all of them on the next page is just as helpful too。 I may love Mexican food, but I didn’t have the slightest clue about chiles。 Glad they did something similar with the salsa section too, and I am ever in love with a cookbook that has a picture with every recipe as this one does。 This book will also be great for the hot days of summer with many of the best recipes for the grill! All the food that I have made from this book has turned out absolutely delicious (excepting the beans, which was all my fault, didn’t let them cook long enough)。 My husband raved on the Tomatillo Crudo Salsa, the homemade tortiallas are to die for-flour or corn, the taco fillings are jam packed with the most wonderful flavors I made Carnitas and Beef Barbacoa, and you can never go wrong with a glass of horchata!Aside from my excitement over the food, I believe this is the most exciting and vibrant cookbook I own。 The photographs are incredible, the design spectacular and the layout is both helpful and stunning。 This is literally THE PERFECT COOKBOOK!! I have too many cookbooks, and no other cookbook that I own makes me as excited as this one。 Maybe it is partially due to my memories, but the taste of great food cannot be held back。 Thank you for putting the cookbook of my dreams into my hands for free Clarkson Potter, like seriously, I cannot thank you enough。 Maybe it sounds like I am exaggerating how wonderful this book is, I am not, I would buy it immediately if anything happened to my copy! 。。。more

I love the graphics and pictures in this cookbook。 Understanding what Tex-Mex cooking is about has me appreciating the comfort food born out of the cross between Texas ranchers' flavorful food and the classic Mexican fare。 I loved the stories with each of the recipes and that they're not difficult to prepare。 I've spied many recipes that I want to cook and look forward to doing so。 My family's favorites are the tacos and salsas。 Thanks for the free book, Clarkson Potter!
